Do you update any system files?

If your system does not have the Visual Basic Runtime installed, or if it is not at least at the Service Pack 5 level, the following system files are updated:

stdole2.tlb, msvbvm60.dll, oleaut32.dll, olepro32.dll, asycfilt.dll, and comcat.dll

If your system does not have the following controls installed, or if they are not at least at the Visual Basic Service Pack 5 level, the following files are updated:

Tabctl32.ocx and Comdlg32.ocx

If you choose to uninstall ASPHelp, SQLHelp, or DBDocumentor, the installer will not remove these files as they are all shared files.

Please note that it may be required to reboot the system to complete the update of these files.

If you are missing components, as indicated by the Test Components dialog, those installers may update additional system files.

Why do I need administrative rights to install the program?

Windows NT, 2000, XP and 2003 Server may prompt during installation for an administrative user to run the installer.  The installation process requires that the installer be able to write to the HKLM registry hive, and may require that certain system files be updated.  On Windows NT based systems, which include Windows 2000 and XP, only a member of the machine administrators group is guaranteed to have the required access.

Please note that this is an install time issue only.  Users do not need to be machine administrators to run ASPHelp, DBDocumentor or SQLHelp.

How do I upgrade my previous version?

Versions of ASPHelp prior to version 1.4 and versions of SQLHelp prior to version 1.5 used the Visual Basic setup application.  The installation and update process of the Visual Basic setup program is not compatible with the InnoSetup program used in later versions of ASPHelp and SQLHelp.

As a result, users upgrading previous versions are encouraged to uninstall the previous version and install the updated version.

Registered users of ASPHelp and SQLHelp should not need to reenter their registration information, but if prompted to do so, should enter the registration information sent in the confirmation email after purchase.  DBDocumentor changed the registration keys beginning with version 3.0, so if you're upgrading from version 2.x to version 3.x, you will be prompted for an upgrade key.

Will I loose my configuration settings when I upgrade?

Generally both the registration status and configuration settings are retained after an upgrade occurs.  If your experience is different, please contact support.
